Electronic Devices Policy.pdf
Beginning in September 2025, electronic devices such as cellphones, airpods and/or headphones, and smart watches will be prohibited in all New York State schools, including Liberty High School. Students cannot bring these devices into the school building. In the event that they do, there will be storage collection bins where students must stow their electronic device when they first arrive into the school building, and can collect it at the end of the school day. These bins will be locked in a secure location throughout the day.
This change will occur in all schools in the State of New York as well as in all five boroughs of New York City (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island). This was passed by New York State Governor Kathy Hochul with the purpose of improving educational outcomes of all students. Please note the following consequences if your child is caught with an electronic device at Liberty High School:
1st Infraction
- The student's electronic device will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.
- A phone call will be made to the guardian.
- A letter will be provided explaining what the next consequences will be if it happens again.
2nd Infraction
- The student's electronic device will be confiscated and not returned until a parent/guardian comes to school to pick it up.
3rd Infraction
- The studentās cell phone will be confiscated and returned at the end of the term (At the end of January/June).
- An online report will be made (OORS).
4th Infraction
- The students' electronic device will be confiscated and not returned until the end of the school year (June).
- A second report will be made in OORS.
